Online Discussion 3/ Directions: Please use your textbook and scanned documents to answer both discussion questions. You are required to solely use your textbook and scanned documents (see Pages –> Chapter 4)to answer the questions. No other outside sources are required to answer the questions. The more details and examples you use to write your responses, the more points you will likely get. You are graded on the originality of your response, the depth, and critical thinking you bring to the discussion. Be sure responses are in your own words, and your own work. Originality is important, and I implore you not to copy the text verbatim from the text. If you do, please be sure to cite the source and page number if it is from the textbook, as I have done in Research Assignment 1 sample. Chapter 3

The caste and slavery systems remained strong, even after 300 years of colonization. By the end of the 1800s and prior to the wars of independence, explain in detail how these concepts and systems played out in Latin America for so long.

From these chapters, women continue to play a prominent role in colonial affairs. What role did women play in wars of independence? Also, discuss some of the factors that led to the collapse of Spanish and Portuguese authority in Latin American countries.
