According to Marzano, Waters and McNulty (2005) the goal of first-order change is to help us get better at what we are already doing. The goal of second-order change is to transform us, changing the organization, assumptions, expectations, habits, roles, relationships and norms. Reflect on your school with regard to the chart in DuFour (p. 258-260) on the seven Cultural Shifts in a PLC. Note that each cultural shift includes several areas of focus. Using pressure and support, provide a plan (hypothetical or real) addressing change needed in those areas and specific action/s you can take as a change agent. Substantiate with connections to text (Doctoral students use additional readings as well).
